Goodbye Edd(sworld)

Eddsworld is one of my favourite things to follow online. I think I first discovered Eddsworld animations on Newgrounds, forgot about it, then rediscovered it many, many months later on NG and also YouTube.

Edd Gould, the creator of basically all things Eddsworld, has a certain style that’s different from other online “entertainers”, if you could call them that. I haven’t been following his stuff from the beginning, but I guess after being a fan and avid follower after three or four years you realise how unique his work is and then tend to appreciate it more. I guess that’s what I enjoyed most about his cartoons and once-weekly comics—unique creativity and plots, fresh jokes, and peculiar-but-ordinary characters. (Anyone that follows me on any of my online sites would have seen me post something about Eddsworld at least once or twice. I’ve even got a link on my links page to the site.)

Some time last year I learned that Edd had leukaemia and had to be hospitalised in order to undergo chemotherapy and other treatments. Because of his hospitalisation he had to sort of put Eddsworld on hiatus, but did manage to release a few more animations, known as “Eddisodes”.

Taken on Tuesday February 21 at 2:58 PM. Every Tuesday Chantelle, the daughter of one of my friends from church, comes over after school. I teach her piano, and also her mum takes this class every Tuesday evening. Chantelle’s school is right around the corner from my street. Some days I get the opportunity to […]

Taken on Friday March 23 at 6:58 PM. I arrived at my friend’s house in Doonside (in Sydney’s west) for connect and I parked with my car facing east. As I got out I saw the sky behind the car and just went, “Woah.” By the way, this photo does not do it justice. – […]

What a beautiful God

I had my iTunes playing on random (“shuffle”, if you wanna be accurate), and a song by one of my favourite artists came on.

Beautiful – Shawn McDonald

As I look into the stars
I’m pondering how far away they are
How You hold them in Your hands
And still You know this man
You know my innermost being, oh
Even better than I know, than I know myself
What a beautiful God
What a beautiful God

And what am I, that I might be called Your child
What am I, what am I
That You might know me, my King
What am I, what am I, what am I

As I look off into the distance
Watching the sun roll on by
Beautiful colours all around me, oh
Painted all over the sky
The same Hands that created all of this
They created you and I
What a beautiful God
What a beautiful God

And what am I, that I might be called Your child
What am I, what am I
That You might know me, my King
What am I, what am I
That You might die that I might live
What am I, what am I, what am I, what am I

It’s been so long since I listened to this song, and I do absolutely love the lyrics. But tonight, one particular lyric stuck out to me:

Who wouldn’t want to see Niagara Falls? It’s the most famous waterfall in the world. At the beginning of Bruce Almighty, Jim Carrey’s character does a news report from Niagara Falls in the midst of the actual waterfall. If you’ve seen the movie, you’ll remember that he’s wearing a poncho raincoat thing and an umbrella […]
