Repost: Burning love

I was reading a recent blog by heidlesz earlier in which she re-posted an old blog from way back in 2007. This reminded me that I wanted to re-post some of my old Myspace blogs here on WordPress so that they could be, you know, exposed. So I looked through my old blogs to find something to post that somewhat reflected what’s going through my mind lately, and I found the perfect one. Here it is:

– –

“I loved you with a fire red – now it’s turning blue.”

The preceding set of words were actually lyrics from OneRepublic’s Apologize. I’m not poetic enough to come up with a line like that.

The first time I heard those lyrics, I wondered what it meant. There’s no such thing as a blue fire, right? Wrong. I learnt in Science all the way back in 2002 while in Year 7 that there are such thing as blue flames. I think it was during the first week of high school, and we were being taught how to use the Bunsen burner. I’m sure you’ve used one before. Our Science teacher at the time, Mr. Schenkel, taught us that when the small holes at the bottom of the Bunsen burner were open, the oxygen entering the spout caused the flame that erupted to be red. But, when the holes were closed, the lack of oxygen would induce a blue flame, with a temperature much hotter than the red flame.

So, why was Ryan Tedder singing about a love-fire that burned at a high temperature? He wasn’t. In light of the story of the OneRepublic song, he was, in fact, singing about his love for someone freezing over, or, in other words, dying. The colour red represents warmth, passion and excitement, while the colour blue represents gloom, bitterness and unfriendliness. Whoever he loved before broke his heart to a point where he just couldn’t love them anymore. (I don’t get people who say stuff like that. Love doesn’t turn on and off.)

New BSB single, Straight Through My Heart

I am TOTALLY in love with the Backstreet Boys, and there has been news of them recording a new album. I’ve been following them on Twitter for pretty much as long as I’ve had Twitter (a couple of months?), and every now and then, the BSB Twitter account tweets something about the Boys recording songs for their upcoming album.

You have no idea how excited this gets me 😀

No, not that kind of excited.

Needless to say, when they tweeted yesterday that their new single was up and playing on their site, it made me jump for joy and scream at my sister about how excited I was, and I couldn’t stop smiling… until I realised I couldn’t listen to it as I was doing things in preparation for my sister’s party tomorrow.

So today, I finally went to their site, and I am listening to the beautiful harmonies created by Nick, AJ, Brian and Howie. The best thing about it is that it’s looped – which means it’s on repeat! Like Homer drools for food, my ears are drooling at the sound of their voices. Ok, no, not really. That’s gross. But I can assure you that this is getting me all the more excited for the release of the album. I can’t wait! XD

Stupid news?

I came across this news article today titled ‘Owner of skull urged to come forward’, and a million thoughts went through my mind.

The first was that if someone had lost their skull, they should be dead, right? Apparently not.

A human skull that washed up on a Sydney beach has police looking for its owner, who should be alive and kicking.

But that doesn’t make sense. Your skull contains your brain which controls every thing in your body. Electric impulses from the brain to your heart cause your heart to beat. So even if your heart is perfectly fine, losing your brain would mean that your heart wouldn’t be able to function. Therefore, no brain means no life. But the article insists that the person “should be alive and kicking”. Uhm… ok.

The skull is that of a child, aged between four and six…

Why on earth would the poor kid still want to be living if they had no head? How on earth would they come forward? They can’t see, hear or think, ’cause they have no eyes, ears or BRAIN.

Police were alerted when the skull washed up at the Mona Vale beachfront area known as the Basin, in Sydney’s north, on September 12 last year.

The Devil's Panties - A on 02/25/2009

This is how I usually feel after I’ve blogged about crap that no one usually cares about. Or when I talk for ages to someone about something that no one would have ever guessed about me. Or when I’ve had a little (long) cry. Or when I’ve written an encyclopaedia-long email to a friend.

Sunny Side Down

Look what I bought today!

Photo 461

I was trying to look excited/shocked. Emphasis on the word 'trying'. Epic fail, Danica.

I’ve been wanting this book ever since I saw this video in February. The book’s titled Sunny Side Down and it’s by Lev Yilmaz, the creator of the amazing YouTube video series, Tales of Mere Existence.

Ha, I know. I just did a little bit of advertising. But I think you should check out his videos. They’re pretty darn good, and Lev is a GENIUS.
